Fontenay-sous-Bois is a town of Île-de-France located in the department of Val-de-Marne. It is located in the inner suburbs, about three kilometers from the capital, Paris. The city experienced an important development in the nineteenth century and the arrival of the railway, becoming a major holiday destination for Parisians.

Things to see and do

Fontenay-sous-Bois offers its visitors a large number of historical buildings and emblematic architecture of the region.

Built in the late fifteenth century, the Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois church took place in a former church of the thirteenth century. Restored almost completely in the nineteenth century following damage caused by lightning, it presents a particular altarpiece of the nineteenth century paintings of the eighteenth century and tombstones.

The fort of Nogent was built in the mid-nineteenth century. It aimed to prevent access to the capital with the enemies of the nation. Bombarded by Prussian guns in the War of 1870, it now houses the Group's recruitment of the Foreign Legion.

Built in the style of Baltard halls to house the market, Roublant hall dates from 1928.

In the city of Fontenay-sous-Bois, art works abound. You can particularly admire the greatest monumental sculpture from Europe, The Tree of Marino di Teana. The town also has... Heloise or the daughter of Three Rivers, an outdoor museum in the park of the town hall, or a memorial of Liberty with the beautiful sculpture of Maurice Cardon, Survivors.

Built for the 1900 Universal Exhibition, the bandstand is one of the jewels of Fontenay-sous-Bois.

Events and festivities

City Fontenay-sous-Bois presents each year a large number of cultural and sporting events to the delight of its inhabitants.

Different markets Fontenay-sous-Bois are held on Tuesdays and Saturdays afternoon and Wednesday and Sunday morning.

Held in May, the festival of Madelon offers concerts, carnival, entertainment for children, fireworks, or empty granaries.

Fontenay under the sun takes place every July and August. For the occasion, the city offers many activities around, such as workshops for children, sports workshops or concerts and performances of all kinds.

10 km from Fontenay take place in October and offer a running sport enthusiasts.

In December, the festival offers Fontenay-sous-Bois Raiders turned to rock music, electro and pop.
