Huez

In 1936 Alpe d'Huez takes off. Jean Pomagalski installed the 1st lift beam and the world mark with his invention the beginning of a great adventure, one that will see a small mountain village metamorphose into an international resort.

Alpe d'Huez has developed since that date to 1860 meters of altitude on the Massif des Grandes Rousses. It is located in the department of Isere (38) and more precisely Oisans.

Le Pic Blanc, highest peak at 3,330 meters, offers a panorama of the Ecrins National Park and its famous peaks: the rake, the Meije Muzelle, the Aiguilles d'Arves, the Belledonne and Mont Blanc. A landscape covering almost 1/5th of the French territory of Italy to the Massif Central.

Center Our Lady of Snows:

The entrance to the church is the throne where a choir organ original, hand-shaped stretched skyward. The 13 stained glass windows depicting scenes from the Gospel according to St. Mark, were made by the artist Arcabas. Guided tours are organized by the museum Huez and Oisans. Capacity: 600 seats.

Quitting is not an option ! - 5,000 cyclists, alone or in a team, will climb in one day up to 6 times the ascent of Alpe d'Huez and its legendary 21 bends. An event that is mythical and renowned in the Netherlands for its 14 km and 1120 meters of vertical drop. By bike, running or walking, the aim is to cover a maximum of 84 km and 6700 vertical meters in the same day ! The objective of these six climbs (Zes meaning 6 in Dutch) is to collect donations for the KWF, the national and official foundation in the Netherlands for the fight against cancer.

The myth of downhill mountain biking - For those who don't know yet, the Alpe d'Huez Megavalanche is one of the most legendary and unmissable marathon descents in the world ! Since 1995, thousands of riders have taken the start from the Pic Blanc, in all sorts of weather conditions ! Its ‘mass start' at 3330 meters of altitude on the Sarenne glacier and its arrival in Allemond, 2600 meters below, make this DH Marathon the longest and craziest race in the world. While this internationally renowned event takes place, the mega kid, dedicated to children, and the e-Megavalanche, a category reserved for electrically assisted mountain bikes, are also being held.
