Plobannalec-Lesconil is a town on the south coast of Finistère in Brittany, 25 kilometers southwest of Quimper.

Composed of a town agricultural, Plobannalec, and several "gaps", the town developed around the coastal village of Lesconil, which was long a stronghold of the fishery and its derivative activities (canning).

Specializes in fishing for lobster, the activity was reduced at the end of the twentieth century and remains more than marginal. Yet modernized the port of Lesconil is now facing the marina, and the town has nearly 3500 inhabitants is mainly residential and tourist.

Busy season, Plobannalec-Lesconil has a varied natural and historical heritage and has become a stronghold tourism Bigouden organizing numerous events that attract tourists and local public.

Things to see and do

One step at Plobannalec-Lesconil can begin with the discovery of the port, which includes a hundred permanent locations but can also accommodate boats from wet space of one night.

If there remains hardly any professionals, recreational anglers and boaters maintain a quaint and friendly spirit.

The shipyard Heart was turned into a place of presentation of the port heritage of Lesconil, 40 years after its closure. You will find very many tools and ancient objects and iconographic documents given by the inhabitants of Lesconil. Everything is exposed in the shipyard reconstituted. Free guided tours are organized in season Wednesday mornings from 11am to 12pm. Information at +33 2 98 87 86 99.

The town has two beaches on its territory, one near the semaphore, the other having been built between the port and the river that borders the (Ster).

Besides lounging, swimming and fishing on foot at low tide, you can practice sailing, sea kayaking or paddle. The nautical center supports children and adults in learning or practice more knowledgeable. Information at +33 2 98 87 89 43.

Via the trail GR34, on foot or bicycle, it is also possible to hike along the coast, even climb or bypass some rocks. Do not forget the Ster, between land and sea, fauna and flora characteristics.

Tourists wishing to discover the built heritage can begin the visit by the Holy Alour Plobannalec church. Rebuilt in the nineteenth century, it has retained however the furniture of the first medieval building. The chapel Saint-Brieuc, in the hamlet of Plonivel, dates from the early sixteenth century, and its Gothic style adapted to Breton materials here is remarkable.

then advise to pass Kerhoas mansion, built in the sixteenth, which was both stately residence and agriculture. The buildings surround a courtyard. This is private property, as Kerlut Castle, built in the late nineteenth century on the site of a first domain had erected a Louis XIV naval officer.

See finally the semaphore, which ensured the coastguard. The current building, on the tip of Goudoul, date of 1860. Having lost its original purpose, it was bought by the city in 1998 which develops a landscaped garden around the site.

There remains for visitors to discover the oldest heritage Plobannalec-Lesconil: its dolmens and menhirs dating from the Neolithic. See in particular, the site of Quélarn which was the subject of several excavations have unearthed necropolis and burial chambers.

Kervadol dolmen and menhir of Kerdalaë-Plonivel are other interesting sites that can be integrated into a guided tour (brochure and information +33 2 98 87 86 99).

Events and festivities

Gourmet and friendly, rich in seafood and local produce, the weekly market takes place on Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lesconil (on the quays from Easter to September, in the village in autumn and winter).

In July August, an additional market takes place on Monday evening, on the port, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Every first weekend of June, over three days, the Hissez l'Étoile festival offers shows related to circus arts.

Every second Saturday of August, the langoustine festival attracts a large audience. Tastings, concerts and folklore parades follow one another to the delight of tourists and locals.

Always in summer, on the port, the Notes Salées offer festive concerts and the Apéros Breizh shows centered on Breton music.

During the second half of October, Plobannalec-Lesconil is one of the localities hosting the SPOK festival, whose program includes concerts, shows and cinema screenings (in tents or in theatres).

On the last Sundays of September, October and November, Plobannalec-Lesconil gives pride of place to street arts in all their forms. Information on +33 2 98 82 20 22.
