Marencennes is a very old village of Aunis, we find mentioned in a charter of Hugh Capet in 987. It is assumed that the name comes from "mare antiqum", ie "ancient sea" or former marshes.
During the Revolution, the village was renamed the Rondee Germain.
Saint-Germain-de-Marencennes was born August 6, 1850 by a gathering of two villages: Marencennes who was a dependent village of Saint Pierre de Surgères and the town of Saint Germain.
Marencennes was separated from the fief of Saint Germain by Ceres.
The total population is 1200 inhabitants in 1851.
Moreover, in 1789 the village Bugaudières which was part of the municipality of Muron is attached to Saint Germain Marencennes, joint thus formed becomes an important town since it includes several small villages: The Ances, Brettes the Bugaudières, Starling and Petit Bois.
The area of the town is that of today, 1,647 ha.
The church and the town hall was built in 1862. The north side of the city reflects its time with its carved pediment eagle and four medallions representing the symbols of Peace (double caduceus), Justice (balance), Law and Agriculture.
Several manors existed on the town:
Street three bridges remains the residence of the Knights of the Ferriere.
The Lordship of Pavaire which depended the castle of Verneuil and which belonged to Admiral Gabaret Chief Wing King, then Governor of Martinique.

In the heritage of the town, you must enter the crest of the town which lies on one of the windows of the church in honor of Raimond Péraud born in Saint Germain Marencennes in 1436. He became prior of the chaplaincy of St Gilles and were sent to the Pope by Louis 11th who resided in Surgères in 1472. He was bishop then Ambassador of France in Rome. Appointed cardinal in 1493, he played an important role between the German Empire and the King of France. His tomb is located in Viterbo, Italy, where he died in 1505.
The restoration of communal oven was made in 2003. It is being heated for baking breads and cakes twice a year. Many laundries. A shell wells.
Restoration of the mill Sirat, one of the last windmills on the dozen mills that once existed in this village of Aunis. Built in 1813 by Pierre and Madeleine Sirat Mureau, whose initials are engraved in a stone veneer doors. He was still in working condition in the early 20th century. Long abandoned, it fell apart when supported by the Backup Local Heritage Association of Saint Germain Marencennes municipality undertook to save him. The volunteers of the association removed the ivy that covered the stones then asked a framework (former wood yard Hermione), a company designed the cover, turning off the water mill and the saving of certain ruin. Doors were raised. Today, the effort continued, challenging the internal state of the mill and openings. The objective is to save a municipal heritage passed down from previous generations and witness the daily life of old people.
