At the crossroads of two Roman roads, the site is Bourgheim inhabited since the 1st century. The ruins of the fort (burgus), which protected the road and watch the Kirneck, served as a foundation for the building, the 12th century Romanesque church. Archaeological excavations have to update numerous remains of plants potters in Roman times. In the Carolingian period, potters and glassmakers settled in the village.
