• The church:

• Herzeele is a village in the heart of Flanders which displays a large number of cultural places for such a small village. Its church is one of the 30 hallekerques, ie a large Flemish church. This term indeed comes from the Flemish "halle" which means "hall" and "kerke" which means church. The Hallekerques are large churches formed by 3 large parallel naves.
• At Herzeele, the church named Our Lady of the Assumption was built in beige bricks in the 17th century, and is rich in religious objects, paintings and high quality stained glass windows. Thus, the church of Herzeele has 3 magnificent altarpieces: an altarpiece built in 1741 in wood and polychrome dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption; an altarpiece to the north built in 1738 and showing the Sacred Heart; an altarpiece in the south developed in 1739 representing Saint Anthony.
• The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption also contains a magnificent pulpit sculpted by Pierre Van Brouckhorst in 1765. Its stained glass windows also represent the life of Jesus in color. The bright colors of the stained-glass windows amaze the eyes while letting a dense light pass through the church. In 1895, an architect named Cockempot added a tower to the west to the Hallekerque.

• The small Becque valley:

• The small Becque valley at Herzeele is a regional nature reserve classified since 1996. The small meadow of less than 1 hectare is bordered by a tributary of the 'Yser named "La petite Becque". The site has remained like the old meadows of inland Flanders: wooded and damp.
• Thanks to this favorable climate, the valley is home to an important biodiversity: from the young bird in the air through the stickleback in the pond to the frogs, the valley is home to many animals, many of them endangered. extinction.
