Municipality of Mayenne, in the Pays de la Loire region, Louverné takes place about ten kilometers from Laval, in the heart of the historic province of Maine. It is located not far from Changé, Argentré and Saint-Germain-le-Fouilloux.

Known since the 11th century, the city formerly called Saint-Martin-de-Louvernay has long been focused on agriculture before becoming an important home weaving stronghold in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, the city rewarded with two flowers in the Competition of the cities and flowered villages of France continues to attract visitors passing through the region by the richness of its architectural heritage and the charm of the landscapes of this city in the countryside which allows to enjoy the calm away from the urban hustle and bustle.

Things to see and do

Built in the 17th century, the Château de La Bigottière has passed from hand to hand over the centuries, revealing a main building surrounded by two pavilions, as well as a beautiful chapel built on the orders of Abbé Marandais.

In the shape of a Latin cross, the Saint-Martin church dates from the second half of the 19th century. It reveals in its interior several chapels of abdidial shape opening onto the choir, as well as very beautiful altars in white stone made in workshops in Angers. Its facade tower was completely rebuilt and crowned with an arrow at the end of the 19th century following its collapse in 1871.

Walking through the streets of the town, you can discover several lime kilns built in the 17th and 19th centuries. 18th century, at the height of the weaving industry of Louverné.

Events and festivities

The weekly market is held every Friday morning.

In June, make way for the municipal festival with its traditional grilled pig, its fireworks, its ball, its garage sale and its merry-go-rounds.

The Estivales evening takes place every last Friday of August with free concerts accessible to the whole family.

Every two years in November, in even years, the Artists' Biennale is an opportunity to discover the works of local artists through pleasant exhibitions.

A Christmas market is offered in December with artisanal products, fireworks or a visit from Santa Claus.
