The village which dates back to Roman times, even Celtic, was named "Papanheim" the presence of large areas belonging to convents and monasteries. Current research tends to prove a prior presence on the site, the "priests" may be "Druids".
The wine trade was to be flourishing in fact, many patrician houses dating from the Renaissance and he is magnificent towers housing the staircases in stone. The village also had three castles, which were rather large house which he is no longer a trace.
Who says wealth, said greed and Pfaffenheim paid dearly for this prodigality of nature since the village was destroyed three times: in 1338 by the armies of the Emperor of Bavaria struggling with the bishopric of Strasbourg in 1444 by Armagnacs, and in 1525 during the Peasants' War.
Today Pfaffenheim is a wine village situated on the Route des Vins d'Alsace and has many attractions such as the chapel Schauenberg on the village.
