Located in the heart of Angers, in Maine-et-Loire, Adam's house is one of the must-see tourist sites of the city. It is a beautiful testimony of the medieval architecture that still exists today and, as such, is classified as an historic monument.
The so-called house of Adam and Eve or the Tree of Life was built at the end of the 15th century at the head of the cathedral. With its wooden sides and its enigmatic decor, it is one of the finest carpentry works of the French Middle Ages. It takes its name from the figures of Adam and Eve located on the corner post of the ground floor.
It seduces by the richness of its carved decoration which mixes ornamental motifs of naturalistic inspiration, figurative scenes and religious subjects like the Virgin or the angel of the Annunciation. Since the 1990s, it houses the House of Craftsmen Angers.
