Built in the second half of the 19th century, opposite the Place du Maréchal-Leclerc, the courthouse of Angers has been listed in the Historic Monuments for its facades and roofs.
Replacing the former presidial on the Place des Halles, the building presents a strict and classical architecture with in particular an avant-corps of eight Ionic columns, a style that can be found in most of the large courthouses of this period.. The sculpted pediment also conveys the solemnity of the place, the whole closing off the impressive Champ-de-Mars esplanade.
