Le Plessis-Trévise

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Val-de-Marne

Le Plessis-Trévise is a town in the Val-de-Marne, about fifteen kilometers north-east of Paris, in the Île-de-France region.

On the outskirts of Seine-et-Marne and Seine-Saint-Denis, the municipality was officially created in 1899. Its territory was until then divided between several neighboring localities. The history of the town began as early as the 18th century, when the Prince of Conti regrouped the domains of Plessis-Saint-Antoine and Plessis-La Lande. Then, in 1812, the castle of La Lande was acquired by Marshal Mortier, named Duke of Treviso by Napoleon III, which gave its name to the future commune. In the second half of the 19th century, part of the land belonging to the castle was dismembered and a subdivision was formed.

Then the site becomes prized by Parisian families wanting to settle in a still rural environment. But it is in the 20th century that the population will grow. There are less than 1,000 inhabitants before the First World War and less than 1,500 before the Second World War. Starting in the 1950s, the demographic growth was more marked, with the implantation of an Emmaus city and then the construction of subdivisions and buildings in the 1970s and 1980s. Le Plessis-Trévise now has nearly 20,000 inhabitants.

However, in the city center (built in the 1980s) and in the rest of the territory, the elements of the historic heritage and the parks and natural spaces, as well as numerous cultural and leisure facilities, make the Plessis-Treviso a stage of interest.

Things to see and do

In terms of architectural heritage, if only one grid remains of the castle La Lande where Marshal Mortier lived, one can still observe a 19th century house building on the farm where the castle of Plessis Saint -Antoine: the castle of the Tourelles, on the other hand, a building of classic style but residential erected in the nineteenth century with a beautiful park, constitutes the jewel of the city. Acquired by the municipality, it is now devoted to the reception of artistic exhibitions and the garden is public. Information on +33 1 45 93 34 78.

A walk will also include the town hall, a 19th century classical building acquired by the city after the First World War, to which wings were added in 1975.

The monument to the dead and its monumental sculpture depicting a kneeling woman is also worth a look, as well as the astonishing Pintray tower, built in the 19th century in millstone and brick. Its construction is the result of a quarrel of neighbors, the tower being erected in a spirit of revenge after the owners of the neighboring residence had built a wall... The tower marks today the entrance of the city of Plessis-Treviso to the image of a medieval tower (which it is not!).

On another level, to discover the flagship town of the community Emmaus (city of the Joy), which has been rehabilitated, allows to apprehend a part of the history of the town planning and architecture of the post-war period.

But the city is also rich in its environmental heritage. You can enjoy nine parks or public gardens. The park of Ourém, which adjoins the town hall, contains several playgrounds, the Mansart park, a reconstruction of a 19th century garden around the school of Music, a restored building dating back to the 19th century. the same time. Located on the canal which crosses the city, adorned with ancient statues, it is a place of prized walk. Another example is the Burladingen park with playgrounds and picnic areas, Saint-Pierre park, which is divided into two parts separated by a canal, the park of the Chateau des Tourelles, which remained as it was in the 19th century century, with a pond and its small bridge, the statue of Marshal Mortier and a dovecote. For the amateurs, the Buffon arboretum shelters rare and varied species. Finally, you can still enjoy the Parc Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the Émile Loubet garden near the mediatheque, Japanese inspiration, and finally the garden of Abbé Pierre created during the rehabilitation of the Cité de la Joie suburban).

Note that hiking routes connecting the city's parks have been designed. Documentation on +33 1 45 93 34 78.

Trails have also been set up within the Plessis Saint-Antoine regional forest, which offers no less than 28 hectares at the gates of the city. The site was designed by the region, the city and the NFB.

Both the urban center and the green outskirts of the territory can be discovered by bicycle. A rental service has been set up. Information and reservations on +33 1 56 31 12 12.
