Beef bourguignon is a famous traditional dish that's popular with children and grown-ups alike! It was originally prepared for celebrations and soon became the quintessential French Sunday dish. Its name simply comes from its two main ingredients: beef from Charolais cattle and Burgundy wine.
To prepare this great classic of French cuisine, the pieces of beef are cooked in a sauce bourguignonne made of red wine, onion, garlic, bacon and a bouquet garni. The dish is simmered for several hours to bring out all the flavours and give the meat a meltingly soft texture. Beef bourguignon is usually served with potatoes or pasta and a red wine from the Côte de Nuits or Côte de Beaune vineyards.
