Located in the center of the original city, the church will be destroyed by the war of the Beggars. It will be rebuilt in 1562 as a large hallekerque (hall church). The building suffered terribly during the last world war (fire in 1940 and then blasting the tower in 1944). Only part was restored (south transept, central and south choir chorus) and supplemented by a new building in 1959.
