Bois-le-Roi is a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department in the region Île-de-France. Bordered to the north by the Seine and south by the forest of Fontainebleau, Bois-le-Roi is facing Chartrettes on the other side and 10 km southeast of Melun.

The name of Bois-le-Roi is attested in 1260 in a document signed by Louis IX. From the mid-nineteenth century, many artists fell under the charm of this small town settled there: the poet Gustave Mathieu (1808-1877), musician Olivier Metra (1830-1889) famous for his waltzes.

Nestled in an exceptional setting of greenery in the heart of the Pays de Seine, Bois-le-Roi calls for a moment of calm and serenity just 50 km south of Paris. This charming town offers a perfect setting for holiday for lovers of nature, culture, sports or just quiet.

Coexist alongside barges superb villas marina nineteenth and twentieth centuries built along the river. These many "maddening along the Seine" and small castles remain a rich architectural heritage: the Clos Barbeau and Villa Chante-Merle built by architect Louis Périn in a neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau villa Roselière or Vieux Logis built from a facade of the fifteenth century from Amiens.

Since 1972 Bois-le-Roi Leisure Island provides a unique setting for the practice of many sports. Below is a real breath of fresh air just 50 km south of Paris. Place of nature and biodiversity, the leisure spans 73 landscaped hectares including 8 hectares of water dedicated to sports, recreation or relaxation for the whole family: golf, horse riding, tennis, mountain biking, archery, tree climbing, climbing, beach...

Events and festivities

Many events are held throughout the year to Bois-le-Roi. Punctuated by local associations, this lovely city shines in the Pays de Seine by its dynamism and friendliness.

In March, the city organizes the traditional hunt for Easter eggs in the City Park and a concert of Celtic music for St. Patrick.

In April, Bois-le-Roi offers a fabulous journey through time and transports you to the heart of the medieval atmosphere: do not miss to discover the medieval festival that recreates an authentic village, animated by many scenic activities.

Nature lovers have an appointment in April for the "Rando des 3 Châteaux" on foot, bike or horseback around the majestic châteaux of Blandy-les-Tours, Vaux-le-Vicomte and Fontainebleau.

In May, the Festival Of Europe proposes to bring European citizens in the friendliness, respect, tolerance and good humor.

Finally, the city of Bois-le-Roi organizes every year in October a baroque music concert.
