Bois-le-Roi is a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department in the region Île-de-France. Bordered to the north by the Seine and south by the forest of Fontainebleau, Bois-le-Roi is facing Chartrettes on the other side and 10 km southeast of Melun.
The name of Bois-le-Roi is attested in 1260 in a document signed by Louis IX. From the mid-nineteenth century, many artists fell under the charm of this small town settled there: the poet Gustave Mathieu (1808-1877), musician Olivier Metra (1830-1889) famous for his waltzes.
