Located in the Seine-et-Marne, Samois-sur-Seine is a city of Île-de-France which has retained a certain charm. It extends over six kilometers along the Seine, on the banks of the popular Fontainebleau Forest. Samois-sur-Seine borders of the town of Fontainebleau, known especially for its castle, based in twenty kilometers from Melun.
In his time, the city attracted many writers and other artists seduced by the beauty of its nature and its gentle way of life. Boasting an important architectural or natural heritage, the city of Samois-sur-Seine is now mainly turned to tourism, allowing the discovery of a part of the history of Île-de-France.

Founded during the reign of Louis XIII, the castle and the hermitage of La Madeleine are one of the most popular sites Samois-sur-Seine. Many personalities were hosted there, like Chateaubriand, George Sand and her lover at the time, Alfred de Musset. Today private property, the castle is the headquarters of SHAPE, the military command center for Allied Commander Europe for NATO.
Listed as a Historic Monument, the Saint-Hilaire church has a bell dating back to 1789 and listed as a historic monument, as well as a reliquary also in the inventory of Historical Monuments. Inside, visitors can admire a statue of the Virgin and Child dating from the fourteenth century and the historic monument like the cross supporting Hilary in the cemetery.
Samois-sur-Seine hosts many gardens inventoried pre-inventory of remarkable gardens of France, like the garden of the villa Ruissel-sous-Bois, one of the villa Rochefontaine, the Villa Marie-Fanny, the Villa des Sources, the villa the Country Club, the castle park of Bellefontaine or the villa Les Fontaines-God.
Built in 1896, Villa-Dieu Les Fontaines is a luxury residence listed in the Inventory of Historical Monuments.
Walking through the city, visitors can discover Samois tower, built in 1880, the Quai Franklin Roosevelt has beautiful walks along the littered barge docks, or the castle of Bellefontaine. The latter, located on a Natura 2000 site, is in a very degraded state.

Every year in November, the city of Samois-sur-Seine offers its festival Django Reinhardt. The city puts forward the famous guitarist who died on his land, organizing jazz concerts for three days.
In December, following the example of Lyon, the city offers a feast of lights illuminating streets.
