A favorite French village in 2014, located between the river Loing and the royal road (ex RN7), close to the woods, quarries and fields, Grez enjoys a privileged position. The village is of a modest size in terms of population, but it has a long history since the site was already occupied in prehistoric times.
Sandstone yesterday, the Old Stone Bridge spanning the Loing, and then on the left, the ruins of the Tower of Ganne and the church, as a few centuries later, young artists, foreigners in their vast majority, abandoned Parisian workshops where they studied with masters of the time, the very people who made this time the golden age of French painting, to go paint from nature. Seeking light, they tried to outdoor painting and many were those who, for half a century, chose Grez. Thus were created the American art colonies, British, Japanese and Scandinavian, their French counterparts who often preferred the neighboring villages.
Grez today places you will discover during a walk. The town museum opens its doors to lovers of works of art of the city collection that was initiated in 1910 by Fernande Sadler.
