Opened in 1980 by the Yvelines General Council, the county museum Maurice Denis is housed in the former home of Maurice Denis, a painter and theoretician of the Nabi movement, who made this most of his work home.
Built in the late seventeenth century, this impressive building is surrounded by a garden and today a listed building. The house and garden are staged on the sunny side of the hill of Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
Entirely dedicated to the symbolist movement, nabi, post-impressionist and Pont-Aven group, this cultural institution of the Yvelines General Council brings together artists associated with the avant-garde of modern art in France in the late nineteenth and early the twentieth century such as Bonnard, Bourdelle, Denis, Gauguin, Lacombe, Ranson, Roussel, Serusier, Vuillard, Vallotton, Redon, Verkade...
